Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to a fabulous new school year at Discovery School! I am looking forward to teaching your children this year. My name is César Martínez Quan and this is my nineth year teaching and my fifth year at Discovery School. I have a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in Project Management, both from the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana, UNITEC.
I will be teaching Physics to 12^{th} grade.
We will be covering the following content during the school year:
I Quarter II Quarter III Quarter IV Quarter
Scientific Math
Linear Motion Circular Motion
Forces
Momentum

Work & Energy
Solid State Physics Fluid State Physics
Wave Dynamics
Sound Optics Electricity Magnetism
MAKE UP WORK
** It is the responsibility of the student to obtain all make up assignments from the teacher and to see that the completed work is submitted within the allotted number of days.
If a student is absent for 1 or 2 days, he/she MUST bring an excuse from home in order to be able to make up the missing work
If a student is absent for 3 or more days, he/she MUST bring an excuse from the doctor in order to be able to make up the missing work
If the student brings an appropriate excuse, he/she will have 1 day per day missed to make up his/her work
If the student fails to present his/her work when it is due, he/she will receive no points for the work
If the absence is due to a pre planned activity, work that is due on the day of departure should be turned in prior leaving
COMMUNICATION
If you wish to come in and talk to me (or any other teacher) please contact the school’s office to make an appointment or send a written note with your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you or your children have any questions or concerns.

Every Monday, my blog will be ready for parents and students. In my blog, you will find topics being covered, special activities, dates for quizzes and projects, homework, etc. Do not forget to check it on a weekly basis to keep updated on the latest news.
http://www.grade12ds.wordpress.com
Grades will be posted on http://www.engradepro.com. Parents and students may register to create their accounts or add the class to their existing account; the access code will be given to the students in class and to each parent during Open House on Tuesday, August 8. The student’s progress will be clearly posted every week. Test grades, homework and projects will be available to for both parents and students to check. Students will also be given online quizzes and individual comments will be posted when necessary. I strongly encourage both parents and students to create their account and check engrade on a regular basis.
ARRIVE ON TIME
Being tardy to class causes disruption to the learning environment and causes the student to miss important class information. Therefore, a student will be counted tardy if he/she is not in the classroom when the bell rings. See the handbook for consequences on three or more tardies.
HOMEWORK/CLASS WORK (30%)
Students will receive a homework assignment everyday from Monday through Thursday. However, exceptions will be made from time to time. Homework is to be completed and prepared for a teacher check at the moment the bell rings at the beginning of a class period. No late homework will be accepted. If a student is tardy to class, he/she is responsible for showing the teacher (after class) his/her work. No homework will be accepted past the due date, unless the student has an excused absence.
Homework will NOT be accepted or graded (will result in a automatic ZERO) if;
Handed in as loose sheets of paper
Homework done in a notebook from another class
 Notebooks with no name
Any dishonesty regarding homework assignments will result in disciplinary action, during which the student will redo the assignment for no credit.
LABS, PROJECTS AND PRESENTATIONS (30%)
Projects and presentations will involve researching from a variety of sources and synthesizing this information into a unique, creative project or presentation
Labs will be graded based on either the completion of a lab worksheet or a formal lab report. Labs involve participation in the scientific method, including completing experimentation and data collection during the class period and some summative and conclusion work to be completed outside of class.
